Moroccan children-Les enfants du Maroc

Moroccan children are no different than those anywhere in the world. They want to play, they laugh when they have fun and they love to talk to foreigners. They are expected to do certain chores and one often sees them carrying relatively heavy loads. Yet they are well treated and seem happy and well adjusted. Unfortunately, not all children go to school as attending school is not compulsory and some children work long hours.

This little boy was bringing home a basket full of fresh bread that was almost as big as he was.

This young lad pretends to be shy but he is anything but. After school, he helps his father who is a weaver. The speed and dexterity with which he makes knots and pompoms on his father's scarves is simply fascinating. He dreams of going to Canada on a plane and asked how much it would cost. Knowing him, I wager that he will save up and go someday, somehow.

His brother at fourteen is quite adept at weaving on the old loom.

This tiny little girl sucking on a lollipop came up to me as I was walking by and proceeded to tell me a long, involved story while pointing toward the street. She told me all this in Arabic, a language I don't speak but this did not seem to deter her. Her father who was close by translated: she was telling me about someone she knew who was walking away.
